The prosecutors announced on Monday that the Australian man facing charges of smuggling drugs into Bali can get a punishment up till death sentence according to the law.

The accused, Edward Myatt, is going to be transferred to the Kerobokan jail most probably on Monday from the police headquarters as the police completed their investigation of the case and handed it over to the prosecution for further process. The accused was arrested in the month of February at Ngurah Rai airport in Bali with more than 1 kilogram of hasish and about 4 grams of another banned drug in plastic bags which he had swollen.

The head prosecutor of Bali Gusti Gede Putu Atmaja also spoke to the media and acknowledged the receipt of the report submitted by the department of police and said that the accused can be facing death penalty in the case as it is one of the most serious cases of drug trafficking in the region. He said, “Today, we have declared its P21. The document has been finalized. The primary charge will be under article 113 which is for importing and distributing with maximum penalty of death.”

With chances of first hearing of the case sometime in May, Myatt is facing charged with two cases of possession of drugs.
