Following an investigation by Colchester RCMP and Northeast Nova (NEN) Major Crime Unit (MCU), a Colchester man has been charged in relation to an assault on a two-month old male infant.

On March 22nd, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Colchester RCMP were notified by the Department of Community Services that a two-month old male infant was taken to the Colchester Regional Hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries. The infant was immediately transported to the IWK Hospital in Halifax, where he remains in stable condition.

On April 1st, Colchester RCMP charged 23 year-old James Joseph Robert PUMPHREY of Hilden, Nova Scotia with attempted murder and aggravated assault. He has been remanded into custody and will appear in Provincial Court in Truro on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation continues with the NEN Major Crime Unit.
