A 49-year-old male critically injured during an altercation outside the George Spady Centre on Sunday, April 3, has died in hospital.

Downtown patrol officers responded to the Centre, located at 100 Street and 105A Avenue, at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday and discovered a male with life-threatening injuries. He was immediately treated and transferred to hospital by EMS. His injuries were severe and he died the next morning, Monday, April 4, 2011.

EPS have one 50-year-old male in custody, and charges are pending. It is not known if the deceased and the suspect in custody were known to each other.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5 at 9:30 a.m., at which time cause of death will be determined.
