On April 9, 2011, at approximately 3:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an animal call at a suite located in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue.

Initial reports indicated that a 75 year old male resident located a loose 5-6 foot long snake under the sink of his bathroom. Officers attended, Animal Services were notified and the snake was safely secured.

The investigation continued at which time officers identified the owner of the snake to be a 33 year old male resident of the same building. It was during a search of the owner’s suite when officers located over 50 additional snakes and other reptiles.

Since this time, several snakes have been seized and the owner is currently facing charges under the City of Winnipeg Exotic Animal By-Law.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Winnipeg Police Service and Animal Services.
