Patrick John Bevin of Dartmouth charges with attempted murder

An off-duty HRP officer arrested the man accused in last night’s shooting on the Waverley Road.

At 6:43 p.m., police responded to calls of shots being fired at a house in the 700 block of Waverley Road. It’s believed at least two shots struck the house but, fortunately, the residents were not injured. The suspect fled in a vehicle that was observed by an off-duty HRP officer who was in the area. The officer noticed the vehicle because it was being operated in a dangerous manner and almost struck the officer’s vehicle.

The officer followed the vehicle to a parking lot on Waverley Road where the driver exited the vehicle. The officer approached the man, identified himself as a police officer and arrested him for dangerous driving. After the man was arrested, the officer observed a gun in the vehicle. Investigators were able to connect the man to the shooting.

Thirty-six-year-old Patrick John Bevin of Dartmouth faces charges of attempt murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, a number of weapons-related offences and two counts of breach of recognizance in connection with the shooting. He faces additional charges of mischief and breach of recognizance for allegedly damaging an interview room last night after he was arrested. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court this afternoon.
