A routine traffic stop in Clarington has led to the seizure of over $28,000 in packaged marihuana.

On Friday, April 29, 2011 just a few minutes after midnight, an East Division officer operating an unmarked police cruiser followed a vehicle speeding eastbound on Highway 401 in Clarington. The officer determined the speed to be upwards of 130 km/h and pulled the vehicle over near Liberty Street.

While speaking with the driver, the officer detected the smell of marihuana coming from within the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a small box filled with vacuum-sealed bags of marihuana, with a street value of $28,900. The officer also seized two cell phones.

Aziel BAILEY, age 22, of Audley Road in Ajax is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking; and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. He was held for a bail hearing.
