On May 5, 2011, around 5:00 p.m., the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment RCMP Serious Crime Section executed a Criminal Code Search Warrant at 19988 Beacon Road in conjunction to the investigation of the structure fire which resulted in the death of an 18 month old child. A preliminary examination of the scene was conducted and will be further examined today. The examination is being conducted to determine the cause of the fire and cause of death of the child. Until the scene examination and autopsy are complete the causes are not able to be determined.

A Search Warrant is applied for in any investigation where there is suspicion that a Criminal Code offence may have occurred. "Our investigation is clearly focussed on the cause of the fire and the cause of death of the child," said Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth. "The results of the completed scene examination will determine the next course of our investigation."

This is all of the information the UFVRD RCMP is releasing at this time. Further information, in the form of a press release, will be given when it becomes available.
