Just after 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, Downtown Division members responded to the Edmonton Remand Centre at 96 Street and 104 Avenue regarding a suspicious death of a 60-year-old male inmate.
Early in the investigation Homicide Section was called to the scene due to the nature of the event. Investigators determined the death to be a homicide. Another inmate, Justin Caldwell Somers, 25, has been charged with 2nd degree murder.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, May 13 at 9:00 a.m. The name of the deceased will not be disclosed until next of kin have been notified.
