An anonymous tip about a firearm resulted in seven years jail time and a 20-year firearms prohibition for James Choi. Mr. Choi, age 37, of Delta BC, was sentenced on May 5 after he was convicted of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5.3 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

“On February 18, 2011, Richmond RCMP officers received an anonymous tip that a male staying at a local hotel was in possession of a firearm,” said Cst. Tammy-Lyn Walker, spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP. “When police arrived, they recognized the hotel guest as a prolific offender.”

Mr. Choi was in possession of a large duffle bag containing approximately 30 kg of cocaine – worth an estimate $3 million dollars on the street.
