BC Mountie charged with aggravated assault for 2009 shooting

One count of Aggravated Assault has been laid against Cst. David Pompeo in relation to a 2009 police involved shooting in Chemainus, B.C.

On September 18, 2009, two plain clothes North Cowichan/Duncan Detachment Street Crew members conducted a vehicle stop of a vehicle containing two men. During the vehicle stop Cst. Pompeo discharged his service pistol once, striking one of the subjects. This subject was hospitalized at the time and has since been released.

The investigation into this shooting was led by the Victoria Police Department. Any questions about the investigation should be directed to S/Sgt Grant Hamilton, Victoria Police Department.

Cst. Pompeo, who had about 4 ½ years service at the time, will be appearing in Duncan Provincial Court June 7, 2011 to answer to this charge. A separate Code of Conduct investigation is ongoing. Cst. Pompeo is currently assigned to administrative duties and is not operational.
