Three Mounties from Kamloops charged in cell block assault

Following an investigation by the Kamloops Serious Crime Section, three Kamloops RCMP officers and one municipal guard have each been charged with one count of Criminal Breach of Trust with respect to a cell block incident at the Kamloops detachment August 18, 2010.

Charged are Cpl. Rick Brown, Cst. Stephen Zaharia, Cst. Evan Elgee, and municipal employee David Tomkins. They will be appearing in Kamloops Provincial Court on July 18, 2011 at 9:30 am.

Cpl. Brown remains suspended with pay. Cst. Zaharia and Cst. Elgee are assigned to administrative duties. A separate internal Code of Conduct investigation is ongoing.
