Nanaimo RCMP wish to advise the public of several incidents in the past month involving an adult male approaching teenage females.

As previously reported, on May 17, 2011 at 3:30pm, a 14-year old girl was walking on Jingle Pot Road from the Nanaimo Parkway when she was approached by a male in his 30’s who asked her if she wanted a ride. The male driver exited his vehicle and followed her up the road, attempting to convince her to come with him. The girl called an adult on her cell phone. The suspicious male saw this and turned and went back to his vehicle. The male was described as being 5’10" – 6′ tall with light stubble on his face, driving an older model extended cab Chevrolet pickup.

Since this incident, two others have been reported. On June 4, 2011 at 1:10pm, a 12-year old girl was followed by a male driving a truck on 8th Street. The male never spoke to the girl but continued following her along 8th Street until he reached Georgia Ave. The male driver was described as being a Caucasian, 50 years old with short grey hair and possibly a beard. The truck was described as being a newer black truck with a silver stripe down its side.

Twenty minutes later, at 1:30pm, a 14-year old girl was resting on her front lawn of her home near Nanaimo District Secondary School (NDSS) when she was approached by what was described as a 40-year old male in an older black pickup truck. The male driver asked if she wanted to go to the beach with him and when she said no, the truck left towards Harewood.

Nanaimo RCMP believe that it is the same male involved in each of these incidents and are concerned, as to what the male’s intentions were in approaching these girls. The public is reminded to be vigilant when walking alone and to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Also, if possible try to obtain a license plate of the vehicle. Even several numbers or letters can be useful. Take a picture of the vehicle with your cell phone if you can.
