PEI’s Homburg Theatre hosts strip club

The Confederation Theatre production of The Full Monty is a new low for the theatre.

One has to travel to Angie’s strip club in Moncton to see anything like this, and no one thinks Angie’s is a high class establishment. 

Only 2 decades ago, the Elvis show raised the ire of religious leaders and the good citizens of PEI. The Full Monty has our moral leaders sitting in their churches in silence.

Let’s face it – nude dancing with music and a cheesy plot is called striptease. It’s as old as man’s lust for women.

“The Full Monty on Wednesday are promising more than just a striptease.” reports the CBC repeating the titillating press release. “If you want to come just to see a little flesh, then come on down,” said Eugene Clark, who plays a character named Horse.”

The trick is get all the ladies hearts a flutter and avoid moral outrage by having the men do the stripping. That cuts short any complaints about sexism.

Perhaps PEI is all grown and ready to join the rest of the world with strip bars.

If so the PEI Liquor Regulations will have to be changed since exotic dancers are controlled by the act and nudity is forbidden.

“Only licensed lounges are permitted to have Exotic Dancers provided that the city, town, municipality, community or the residents-thereof, in which the licensed lounge is situated, is not opposed to exotic dancing and written support is provided to the Commission…” PEI Liquor Control Commission Policy

Since the Confederation Centre has a liquor license, one assumes they have to meet the laws both at The Mack where the show previewed and at Homburg Theatre.

In the past, local clubs who imported exotic dancers were threatened by liquor inspectors with the loss of their license.

Did PEI Liquor Commission CEO Brooke MacMillan conduct a survey of Charlottetown residents? Or did he just ask City officials like Mayor Clifford Lee and Councillor Mitch Tweel if they would like a little exposed male genitalia?

“Entertainers are not permitted to perform totally nude. The genital areas must be covered by a “G” string or bikini bottom.” says the law.

The law needs to be updated since the politicians never envisaged men letting it all hang out. G strings aren’t suited for the coverup of male equipment.

Will Anne of Green Gables get a refresh next year with Anne ditching those corny turn-of-the-last century costumes for a g-string or bikini bottom?

This certainly is a new branding image for PEI – sun, surf, lobsters and soft porn.
