A 30-year-old Toronto man was arrested yesterday by members of the Major Crime Robbery Unit and the Toronto Police Hold-Up Unit in connection with armed robberies at six Credit Unions throughout the GTA.

On Thursday June 23, 2011, members of the DRPS MCU Robbery Unit and the Toronto Police Service Hold-Up Unit arrested the accused in relation to a total of six Credit Union robberies in the GTA during the last seven months. The accused was arrested without incident and charged in connection with two robbery investigations from Durham Region and four investigations from the Toronto area.

Ramon NELSON, age 30 of Toronto is charged with Robbery and Weapon-related offences. The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Armed Robbery at Credit Union in Whitby (11-53285)

Police are asking the public to help identify a lone male suspect who robbed a Whitby credit union at gunpoint yesterday.

On Thursday, March 17, 2011 at approximately 9 a.m., a lone male entered the Meridian Credit Union branch in the Thickson Square Plaza on Thickson Road North in Whitby and approached a teller. He demanded money and pointed a handgun at the teller.

The suspect received a quantity of money then left the building. He was last seen running in a southeast direction across the parking lot. No physical injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as male, black, about 6’2” tall with stocky build, no facial hair. He was wearing a black coat with hood, black cap, black pants and white shoes.

Robbery at Credit Union in Pickering (11-89752)

Investigators are seeking the identity of a lone male suspect who robbed a Pickering Credit Union yesterday at gunpoint.

On Wednesday May 4, 2011 at approximately 9:40 a.m. officers from West Division responded to a robbery incident at the Meridian Credit Union located on Kingston Road in Pickering. The lone male suspect, armed with a handgun, entered the premises and demanded money from an employee before fleeing the credit union. No physical injuries resulted from the incident.

The suspect is described as: male, black, age approximately 20 to 30 years, 5’11” with a large build and wearing dark clothing. The handgun is described as black in colour.

The investigation is ongoing and police are seeking information to identify the suspect.
