District 2 RCMP are investigating the sudden death of a 43-year-old Fredericton man.

On July 23, 2011, just after 6 p.m., the RCMP received a 911 call that a man had been swimming with friends in Grand Lake near Scotchtown but could not be found.

The RCMP and Oromocto Fire Department responded and conducted a search with assistance from community members but were not able to locate the man. This morning, while further search and rescue efforts were being coordinated, family and friends located the man’s body not far from the shore.

Police do not suspect foul play. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. The name of the man is not being released at this time.
