The Comox Valley RCMP can confirm that James Denton was the victim fatally stabbed on Saturday night near Vanier Secondary School in Courtenay. The accused has made a court appearance, but as he is a minor his identity will not be released. He remains in custody.
As this is an ongoing investigation and the matter is now before the courts no additional information will be released.
