Conservative Leader Tim Hudak might decide to freeze public sector salaries if the province’s unions do not agree to lend a hand in reducing the $14-billion deficit to help the province counter the challenges of global economy.
On Friday, Hudak said he’d present all possible options if he becomes the premier. The party already calls for a 2% budget reduction to all government ministries excluding health and education. He also assured to evaluate hundreds of government agencies to notice if they are satisfying their mandate.
Hudak also severely criticized against arbitrated wage decisions that have given provincial workers increments that are beyond what he believes employees would have received if they were working in the private sector. Also that he would try to talk with the province’s unions to make sure that wages don’t increase faster than economic growth in the outlook.
Hudak said: “We’ll consider all options on the table as a last resort. Our first resort is open negotiations, [they can] bring their ideas to the table. We’ll look for responsible leadership, but I won’t rule out any tools.”
