Brother of former Toronto mayor and former Toronto city councilor himself, Doug Ford has claimed that he is “not too happy” about a recent media release that seems to imply that he will be running in the upcoming Ward 42 Scarborough Rouge-River by-election. According to a brief, and apparently misleading, advisory issued soon after midnight, it was publicized that Mr. Ford and MPP Raymond Cho would visit city hall at 10 a.m. for the “registration for the Ward 42 byelection,” hinting at a possible return to politics for the one-time Ward 2 councillor.

However, Mr. Ford corrected the report on Friday morning and explained that he only went to the city hall to support the candidacy of Cho’s former executive assistant, Hratch Aynedjian. In his remarks, Ford alleged that “I didn’t realize that someone sent out a media release misleading people as far as I am concerned. I am not too happy about it.”

Even though Ford has often indicated that he will return to politics, he stressed on Friday he won’t be making a decision about his future until “next year sometime.” Moreover, Ford further clarified that he will not occupy a role in Aynedjian’s campaign because “I am busy with my book right now.” The by-election is scheduled for February 13 and nominations are being accepted until 2 p.m. on Dec. 30. The nomination window has been open since Nov. 10.
