According to the weather forecast, southern Ontario and Quebec and Atlantic Canada is likely to experience high winds and heavy showers in the coming days, while two weather systems travel north from the Gulf of Mexico.
According to Environment Canada, one of the systems with minute pressure will hit the east via Windsor, Ont., to Ottawa and north to Parry Sound, Ont. In addition, numerous rainfall warnings have been issued. Reportedly, the Windsor region could receive the heaviest rain as a low-pressure system, powered by the jet stream, drags in tropical moisture.
Moreover, experts predict 40 to 60mm of rainfall in Windsor-Essex while Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton are likely to experience 45 to 60mm by the end of Thursday. On top of all, high winds up to 70 km/h will align the system, striking hardest along the coast of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
Meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe said: “Today the story is centred in southwestern Ontario. That’s where the rain has already started to move in heavily and it will continue to spread eastward this afternoon into the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa this evening.”
The showers are not likely to slow down until Thursday afternoon as it downpours southern Quebec, the Maritimes and the Avalon Peninsula in southeastern Newfoundland.
