On October 30th, 2011 at approximately 4:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members responded to a hotel parking lot within the 1000 block of McPhillips Street for a report of shots being fired.

Upon arrival officers located an injured adult male.  Paramedics transported the male victim to the hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.  The victim has been identified as Mohamed Ali OMAR, 28 years, of Winnipeg.

The investigation has revealed that the victim, OMAR was with a group of associates when they exited the hotel and attended to a vehicle within the parking lot.  As their vehicle prepared to leave, a large sport utility vehicle (SUV) pulled up and a lone male suspect armed with a firearm exited the vehicle.  The suspect male approached and fired a number of shots in the direction of the vehicle.  Both the victim, OMAR, and a 17 year old male victim sustained injuries consistent with gun shot wounds.

This group, with the exception of the victim, OMAR, fled the area and attended to a hospital where police were notified.   The 17 year old victim remains in stable condition.

Both victims have associations to a local street gang.
