Chief John McKearney of Vancouver’s firefighter squad seems satisfied with the cooperation of protesters at the Occupy Vancouver camp.

On Wednesday, the firefighter squad carried out an inspection of the downtown site in accordance with the orders of B.C. Supreme Court, which mandated the protesters to douse all fires, get rid of all kinds of fuels, and follow the instructions laid down by Vancouver’s fire by laws.

McKearney said the camps are clean of propane tanks or open flames and the protesters abided by all the safety instructions.

He said: “The compliance was 100 per cent for the areas that we checked which was excellent.”

Apparently, the recent inspection was quick and easy in contrast to the one conducted earlier this week. On Monday night, the protesters got into a clash with police and firefighters who arrived at their camps merely to douse a fire the activists had lit in a barrel.

“Given the events of Monday night we found the relationship, or the ability to work with us to be terrific,” said McKearney.

Nonetheless, paramedics showed up when firefighters reported a woman lying semi-conscious in a tent. Later, the doctors found out that she was only suffering from a personal health problem.
