On early Sunday morning, a vehicle crashed through the front door of the Waterloo Regional Police Headquarter.
Apparently, the accident was deliberate, as the car driver aimed at the building in a meaningful manner. According to the police reports, there were no injuries.
32-year-old Bryan Welfred was arrested immediately. Welfred is being charged of dangerous driving and mischief endangering life. Mischief that poses a danger to life carries a maximum punishment of life imprisonment.
Moreover, cops called a forensic team in order to ensure that there were no explosives planted in the car or around the station. The motive behind the attack is still misty.
Police spokeswoman, Alana Holtom said: “We are working to determine the link between Mr. Welfred and the Service and the potential motivation behind this incident.”
In order to avoid such attacks, police stations generally have small concrete barricades in front of the building.
Waterloo Regional Police Chief Matt Torigian said: “This event underscores the importance of designing buildings that are safeguarded against these types of acts and we will be continuing our work with Regional facilities to assess the design of existing police buildings.”
Due to the extensive damage, the police station will remain closed until Wednesday, November 15.
