It seems like Occupy Toronto protesters are not going anywhere any soon – despite court’s verdict, protesters stay firm in their camps in St. James Park after a midnight Tuesday eviction deadline.

According to the police, there are no urgent eviction plans to carry out. Moreover, very few policemen were seen at the site protesting against the encampment east of St. James Cathedral since mid-October.

Earlier on Monday, the court asked Occupy Toronto protesters to leave their camps and head towards their homes. Superior Court Justice David Brown announced court’s verdict at 9 a.m. Monday, supporting eviction notices issued by city bylaw officers.

“Our right to carry out this protest, which is a global movement, is being threatened for a simple municipal bylaw,” said protester Sakura Saunders on Monday. “We’re going to continue to be here and to transform this movement.”

On the other hand, authorities in Alberta took out empty camps in Calgary. Occupy Calgary was handed an eviction notice last week and protesters were waiting for it to be enforced.

Occupy protesters in Montreal stay firm despite a request from the city’s mayor for them to vacate. In Vancouver, the protesters moved from one public space to another insisting government lawyers to ready to ask for a court injunction once more.
