The jury of honour-killing trial in Kingston, Ont., is likely to hear from a relative of Rona Amir Mohammad, the first wife of Mohammad Shafia.
Earlier, the witness told the court that Mohammad seemed dreaded about her position in the Shafia family, and was scared of the alleged killer, Mohammad Shafia. She was also worried about the life of her teenage daughter.
“’I’m just fed up with my life. I ask God to finish my life. I want to be in an accident,’” the witness testified Mohammad told her.
The relative told Rona, "Don’t be afraid. This is not Afghanistan. This is not Dubai. This is Canada. Do not be afraid; nothing will happen."
The defence is preparing to grill the witness Tuesday.
50-year-old Rona Amir Mohammad, 19-year-old Zainab, 17-year-old Sahar, and 13-year-old Geeti Shafia were all found dead in the Rideau Canal in Kingston, three years ago.
According to The Crown, father of the teenagers, Mohammad Shafia, their step-mother, Tooba Mohammad Yahya, and their step-brother, Hamed Mohammad Shafia, allegedly killed the four Shafia women.
By origin, the Shafia family is from Afghanistan. They resided in Montreal’s St-Leonard area. Apparently, the father and son were disturbed by the teenage girls’ western style-clothing who also refused to wear the hijab. Therefore, they killed them to protect the honour of their family.
