Mayor Rob Ford’s press secretary, Adrienne Batra, is giving up her job to become a Comment Editor at the Toronto Sun. Batra will also become a contributor to Newstalk 1010 as a Municipal Affairs Correspondent.

On Tuesday, Batra said: “I want to thank Mayor Ford and all of my colleagues for such a unique experience at City Hall. It has been a real privilege to work in the Office of the Mayor.”

Batra has handled the scandalously media-mutinous Ford during edgy budget talks, long-drawn-out meetings and frustrating labour disputes ever since Ford’s election win in 2010.

“Adrienne has been a vital part of our Administration and I want to thank her for her dedication,” Mayor Ford said in a statement. “We wish her all the best and success in her new endeavours.”

Councillor Doug Ford, the mayor’s brother, thought of Batra as ‘part of the Ford Family’. He said it will be difficult to find Batra’s replacement, despite the increasing pile of resumes for the vacant position.

“The toughest job with that job is obviously controlling Rob and I,” said Councillor Ford. “She’s going to be missed, but it’s not like she’s leaving the country.”
