Monte Menard, 48, passed away after a snowmobile crashed through the ice on Lake Winnipegosis. His body has been found.

According to one of Menard’s family members, villagers of Winnipegosis found his body on Sunday and pulled it out of the lake. Police was called at the scene around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was deployed immediately.

After ice fishing, Menard was going back to the village with a 38-year-old woman on Saturday when their machine went through the ice, told the RCMP.

The lady was saved by family members who spent numerous hours in the freezing water. She was taken to the hospital for special care.

The village of Winnipegosis is about 360 kilometers northwest of Winnipeg.

The RCMP is reminding snowmobile users to use caution when riding on waterways this time of year.
