Winnipeg man Donald Jacob Girard charged for being allegedly involved in a murder incident

On December 2nd, 2011 at approximately 6:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police and emergency services responded to a medic call in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue.

A 19 year old female was located within a residence and was conveyed to the hospital in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries.  The victim, who sustained severe upper body injuries, has been identifies as; Dominique McCann (NIPPI)

The investigation led by members of the Homicide Unit revealed that on December 1st 2011, at approximately 9:00 p.m. the victim and a 25 year old male known to her were walking together when a physical altercation occurred.  During the altercation the victim was physically assaulted about the upper body, which resulted in extensive internal injures.  

The victim managed to make her way to a residence within the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue, where she was later found and police were notified.  

On December 16th, 2011 at approximately 8:30 a.m., as a result of the continued investigation, a suspect male was taken into custody without incident.

Donald Jacob Girard, 25 years of Winnipeg is facing one count of 2nd degree murder for his alleged involvement in this incident.  Girard has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
