An Ajax high school student has been charged with possessing child pornography after multiple images were uploaded from the Internet.

On Tuesday December 20, 2011, at approximately 6 a.m., investigators with the DRPS Sexual Assault Unit, Child Exploitation Section executed a search warrant at a residence in Ajax as part of an ongoing investigation. Over 70 sexually explicit images of females, all under the age of 18, were seized by investigators. They had been uploaded by way of a family computer, without the parents’ knowledge.

The 17-year-old Ajax male was charged with Possession of Child Pornography and was held for a bail hearing. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Members of the SAU want to remind teenagers that downloading or uploading sexually explicit images of young people under the age of 18 is a criminal offence. It is also an offence to make these images and/or circulate these images to your friends or to others on various Internet applications or storage devices. This type of activity could result in charges such as Possession of Child Pornography, Distribution of Child Pornography or Make Child Pornography under the Criminal Code.
