An unidentified body discovered in Hong Kong last week is now believed to belong to a 25-year-old Canadian who was reported missing a week ago.

The man is identified as Joseph “Joey” Basha who was a student and musician from Newfoundland and Labrador. Basha disappeared on Dec. 21.

According to a local police spokesperson, on that same day, the body of a foreigner was found “collapsed in a public toilet.” He said the “body had no identity documents” and the preliminary inquiry indicated the death was not suspicious.

Basha’s sister, Cindy, uploaded her Facebook status saying, “I am so sorry to have to say this, but my brother was found dead. I cannot release details, but I have to thank everyone for their well wishes, efforts and love.”

She added: “[He was] a beautiful, talented, sweet brother [and he] was so loved and had such a significant impact on all of those who knew him.”

Apparently, Basha lived in Hong Kong since 2008. He was a student of international and public affairs at the University of Hong Kong and was also the lead singer of a band called ‘Milkteeth’.
