Antigonish RCMP would like to advise the public of a telephone scam in the Antigonish area.
On January 10th, 2012, RCMP were advised that some Antigonish residents were receiving phone calls from a person falsely identifying themselves as a representative of a local company. The caller told each person they won a trip to Florida for being a loyal customer. The caller then asked for a credit card number and expiry date. The RCMP want to advise the public that this is a scam.
The RCMP is reminding the public not to give out any personal information over the phone and to report any suspicious calls to your local police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre Phonebusters at www.phonebusters.com.
Thanks for bringing this up. This is why I don’t answer anonymous calls anymore. If they’re not scammers, they’d surely be telemarketers and I hate them both. They waste my time. And also, I get their phone numbers and report them at http://www.callercenter.com for everybody to see. That’d get them on everybody’s block list right away.
