Roch Guimont, 37, of Québec City, and Constance Guimont, 63, of Saint-Raymond, will both face charges of illegal possession of night vision goggles exceeding authorized performance standards in Canada. The charges, under the Defence Production Act, have been laid today at the Québec Court House.
Restricted-use goggles
This investigation is conducted by the investigators of the Québec Detachment Royal Canadian Mounted Police. At this point the investigation tends to demonstrate that the accused were illegally in possession of what are known to be third generation night vision goggles. The use of such goggles in Canada is restricted to registered organizations and agencies.
Image intensifiers seized
The investigation was launched in May 2009. In June 2010, the residences of the accused were searched. Among the items seized by the investigators were eight image intensifiers mounted inside the goggles. The investigation is ongoing.
