Former Conservative MP Rahim Jaffer’s guilty verdict in an Ontario courtroom has outraged Canadians.

The 38-year-old was charged last September 2009 with cocaine possession and drunk driving after being stopped by police for speeding in Palgrave, Ont., located about 60 kilometres north of Toronto.

Jaffer pleaded guilty to careless driving and received a $500 fine ONLY, and no criminal record.

Jaffer’s wife is Tory MP Helena Geurgis who represents the riding of Simcoe-Grey.

Only words I have to say: Someone is on the take! I am not surprised or even upset. I expected this.

  1. Looks like the same logic that is trying to close the needle exchanges is working in trying to deal with the Jaffer problem. Anyone who has a run in with the law can be conscomment_IDered careless enough in their drug use to have let basic precaution on their use to slip by the wayscomment_IDe and can strongly be conscomment_IDered to have entered the addictive phase. The PMO would like Jaffer, and all the physically addicted junkies on Hastings, to snap out of it and pull themselves up by their own boot straps. Rehab is for the weak, not the stuff of MP calibre, the elite. By cutting him a break, he’s let the monster back out of its cage to continue its trail of destruction. The wife of an addict is often more damaged than the addict themselves and will display the same lack of judgement, bizarre emotional behaviour as they watch their partner sink further into this fatal obsession. I shudder to think that this brand of ignorance prevails in the PMO and is making decisions regarding policy on this matter.
