Pedestrian man dies of struck in Gateway Boulevard

“The individual struck was a young, Asian male, likely around 20 years old,” said Sgt. Gary Lamont, of the EPS Collision Investigation Section. “Typically, we would not use an individual’s ethnicity to identify them, unless they have absolutely no ID or cell phone on their person, which is the case here.”
At approximately 2:25 a.m., the EPS responded to a report of a collision involving a limousine and a young male wandering across the south Edmonton thoroughfare near 34 Avenue. Police say it appears the pedestrian wandered in front of the northbound vehicle, which was returning to the city from Edmonton International Airport after picking up a passenger.
The pedestrian was killed instantly. The driver of the limousine and passenger were not injured.
There have been 21 traffic fatalities in Edmonton thus far in 2012, nine of which have been pedestrians. There were 10 fatalities recorded by July 2011, five of which involved pedestrians. In 2011, there were 20 in total; eight involved pedestrians.
Traffic Section continues to investigate. No charges have been laid at this time.
