Matthias Barry, 20, of Toronto faces 9 charges

On Friday, April 9, 2010, officers from the TAVIS Rapid Response Team were on patrol in the Jane Street/Woolner Avenue area.

It is alleged that:

– police investigated the occupants of a vehicle on Jane Street, just north of Woolner Avenue,

– police seized a loaded Bersa .380 calibre semi-automatic handgun.

Matthias Barry, 20, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1) Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition,
2) Unauthorized presence of a firearm in a motor vehicle,
3) Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
4) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,
5) Possession of prohibited weapon obtained by the commission of an offence,
6) Possession prohibited weapon,
7) Possess firearm knowing the serial number has been altered, defaced or removed,
8) two counts of Fail to comply Recognizance,
9) Possession of Marijuana.

A 17-year-old boy, of Toronto, has been charged with:
1) Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition,
2) Unauthorized presence of a firearm in a motor vehicle,
3) Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
4) Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,
5) Possession of prohibited weapon obtained by the commission of an offence,
6) Possession prohibited weapon,
7) Possess firearm knowing the serial number has been altered, defaced or removed,
8) Possession of Marijuana.

The name of the accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

They were scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Saturday, April 10, 2010, room 103, at 10 a.m.
