Winnipeg man Derrick Mark Sanderson charges with second degree murder

On Sunday, July 22, 2012 at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service and other emergency responders, attended to the area of the 500 block of Furby Street regarding an injured adult female.

Police arrived and located the injured female on the ground at the location. Paramedics attended and transported the female to the hospital in life threatening condition, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The deceased is identified as: Cherie Lynn Richard, 20 years old of Winnipeg.

The investigation revealed that the deceased and another female were in the area of the 500 block of Furby Street when they were approached by one male and two females. A verbal altercation took place, at which time the deceased was stabbed. 

The suspects fled the area.

On Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at approximately 3:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit arrested a 22 year old male in relation to this incident.

Derrick Mark Sanderson of Winnipeg has been detained in custody and is facing the following charges:

– Second degree murder

– Breach of Probation

 The investigation is continuing.
