A 23-year-old Moncton man has been ordered to pay fines of $1,130,600 in connection with a major seizure of contraband tobacco.

On April 14, 2010, 23-year-old Trevor Howie Dow appeared in Moncton Provincial Court in connection with the seizure of more than two million contraband tobacco cigarettes (10,800 cartons) by the Caledonia RCMP in June 2008.

On June 4, 2008, Caledonia RCMP along with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Fisheries and Oceans Canada stopped a vehicle for a motor vehicle infraction in the Salisbury area. As a result of the stop, a Moncton man was arrested for being in possession of 10,800 cartons of illegal cigarettes.

Trevor Howie Dow was ordered to pay a fine of $367,200 under the Excise Act, $762,400 under the Provincial Tobacco Tax Act and $1000 fine also under the Provincial Tobacco Tax Act.
