On April 15 at 12:10 p.m., Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP responded to a report of an overturned boat on the Nerepis River.

Two men had been fishing on the river when their boat capsized. One of the men managed to swim to shore, while the other, a 23-year-old, was unable to make it to shore and is believed to have drowned. The initial investigation suggests neither man was wearing a life jacket.

The Canadian Air Force Search and Rescue helicopter from Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Grand Bay-Westfield Fire Department and ambulance personnel from Grand Bay-Westfield assisted in the search.

The name of the missing 23-year old man is not being released at this time.
