Man to appear in court in connection with 2008 arson, Moncton, N.B.

A 33-year-old Moncton man will appear in Moncton Provincial Court this afternoon at 1:30 pm to face charges, including arson and using explosives in relation to a fire on March 10, 2008 in a home on Lester Street in Moncton. A 42-year-old man was in the home at the time and suffered serious burns.

Two others have already been sentenced in connection with the arson. 44-year-old Victor Strang of Calgary, Alberta pleaded guilty in March 2010 to charges including arson, using explosives and failing to comply with a probation order. He was sentenced to five years in jail, ordered to submit DNA samples and prohibited from owning any firearms, ammunition and explosives for the next 10 years. In January 2010, 31-year-old Joshua Barber of Hamilton, Ontario was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit arson. He was also ordered to submit DNA samples and prohibited from owning any firearms, ammunition and explosives for the next 10 years.

Further charges against another individual are anticipated.
