The female passenger involved in the single-vehicle crash on Hwy 105 yesterday morning has died from her injuries. She has been identified as Jillian Whelan, 16-years-old, from Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Early yesterday morning, around 3:40 a.m., RCMP Cape Breton Traffic Services responded to a serious single-vehicle crash on Hwy 105 in Dalem Lake just west of St. James Road. An eastbound car went off the pavement, the driver lost control, the vehicle then went into the westbound lane and rolled into the ditch. The occupants of the vehicle, a 17-year-old female driver and 16-year-old passenger, both from Sydney, were taken to hospital in Sydney by EHS. The passenger was then transported to hospital in Halifax by air ambulance. Hwy 105 was closed for a period of three hours while RCMP Collision Analysts examined the scene. The highway has since been reopened.

The collision is still under investigation by the RCMP Cape Breton Traffic Services.
