An 89-year-old Whitby woman has passed away as a result of injuries she suffered after being struck by a motor vehicle in Whitby.

On Monday August 27, 2012 at about 2:20 p.m., officers from Central West Division were dispatched to Dunlop Street and Centre Street South for a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian. Witnesses reported that the pedestrian was walking southbound on Centre Street South, crossing Dunlop Street when she was struck by an eastbound vehicle.

The pedestrian suffered serious life threatening injuries. She was transported by Durham EMS to Lakeridge Health, Oshawa where she succumbed to her injuries.

The deceased female has been identified as May Taylor, age 89, of Whitby. The 75-year-old male driver of the mini-van, also from Whitby, was not injured in the collision. The investigation is continuing.

Members of the Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. Investigators have determined that road and weather conditions were favorable at the time of the collision. Police determined that alcohol is not considered a factor in the collision.
