The Bouctouche RCMP is investigating the drowning of a 53-year-old man from Saint-Thomas-de-Kent, N.B.
RCMP with the assistance of Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue recovered the body of 53-year-old, Jean Guy Maillet of Saint-Thomas-de-Kent, N.B. at 8:30 a.m. on September 13, 2012.
Maillet had gone out to check lobster traps in Northumberland Strait around 4:00 p.m. on September 12. Police and Search and Rescue were called around 8:00 p.m. when he failed to return home. His capsized boat was discovered around 1:00 a.m. on September 13, approximately 500 meters from Cocagne Island. Tri-County Ground Search and Rescue volunteers were also called in to assist with the search of Cocagne Island.
Maillet’s body was found in the strait with the help of a search and rescue helicopter approximately three kilometers from where the boat was found.
The investigation continues.
