Vancouver Police Arrests the Gunman at Hotel Standoff

Vancouver police has finally arrested the suspect who was had maintained a standoff situation inside a downtown hotel with a gun for almost 10 hours. The Vancouver Police Emergency Response Team quickly responded to the situation and tried to tackle the suspect, ultimately the arrest was made at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel at about 12:15 p.m. local time.

Police later confirmed that the 28-year-old suspect, belonged to Surrey, has been shifted to the nearby hospital with minor injuries and will now be indicted with weapons charges. Police was conferring with the suspect for roughly ten hours after which he was arrested. The suspect begun standoff situation at almost 2:30 a.m. on Monday, and the police were instantly informed.

Sgt. Randy Finchman addressed the media stating that “a man in his 20s walked through the front door of the hotel and past the front desk, and staff at the hotel noticed the man was in possession of a handgun or he was carrying a handgun.” He explained that “the man walked into a common area of the hotel that was unoccupied at the time and he has since occupied that space.”

The segment of the hotel was quickly cordoned off and the area surrounding the hotel was blocked for any pedestrian and traffic. Reports show that the man did not take any hostages. Finchman stated that “we don’t believe he was threatening anybody and he wasn’t pointing the firearm at anyone to the best of our knowledge.”
