More than 40 cities all over the world have planned to light candles tonight in commemoration of the Canadian bullying victim who committed suicide, Amanda Todd. It is being organized by a Facebook page, where residents of more than 40 cities have scheduled memorials at respective locations to remember the 15-year-old Port Coquitlam, B.C., girl who took her own life last week.

The largest of all gatherings will commence at the Holland Park in Surrey, B.C., where the attendees are advised to wear pink. Other events are scheduled in all the provinces of Canada from B.C. to Quebec; along with cities in the U.S., Denmark and India. Moreover, The Toronto District School Board has also requested its 250,000 students and 40,000 staff members to pay their respects by observing silence for one minute at 11 a.m. local time today.

Amanda Todd took her own life on Oct. 10 giving up on the years of suffering of Internet sexual abuse and bullying by her peers. The teen’s suicide turned out to be a huge wakeup call to strategize against bullying of teenage school goers.

This Thursday, Magic Johnson was addressing the youth at We Day in Vancouver, where she advised that “when you’re a leader, and you see someone getting bullied or mistreated, a leader steps in and stops that.”  “And they defend that person who is getting bullied. That’s important that you take this away today. Lets stop the bullying, and lets hug and support people and high-five them, instead of bringing them down.”
