A second 6.2-magnitude earthquake has upset the north coast of B.C. This quiver was felt precisely at 7:29 p.m. PT on Monday. The epicenter of the earthquake was calculated by the U.S. Geological Survey to be about 260 kilometres southwest of Prince Rupert and at a depth of about 10 kilometers.
So far no there is no information of any injury or damage caused by the natural disaster. This earthquake is of almost the same intensity as the earthquake recorded on Saturday, i.e. a magnitude of 7.7. According to the U.S. National Weather Service this newest earthquake is not severe enough to produce any sort of tsunami danger. The local authorities were not yet even able to forget the last earthquake off the northwest coast and the government’s response regarding it, as they had to issue a tsunami warning not late than half an hour after the earthquake.
Many seismologists have asserted that aftershocks of the Sunday’s earthquake are a very natural and a normal reaction. However, Masset Fire Chief, Stephen Grosse, mentioned that there is little or no comfort to residents. Grosse stated that “people are like pins and needles around here right now” and “people are too nervous. It scared them pretty bad. They still don’t know who to trust, or if they should trust anybody.” Grosse pointed out that these unexpected circumstances have let the stock up on gas, water and non-perishibles left one gas station empty over the weekend.
