On May 23, 2010 shortly after 7 pm, Bathurst RCMP received a 911 call stating that an ATV rider had been found deceased on a remote, wooded ATV trail in the California Lake region near Bathurst.

Police found the ATV rider, a 65-year-old woman from Nepisiguit Falls deceased near her ATV. It appeared she was riding by herself, lost control of her machine and struck a tree, and died as a result of her injuries.

An RCMP collision re-constructionist was on scene to investigate the collision. Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the collision. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
