The local police department is negotiating with an armed hostage situation at the Starlight Casino in New Westminster. Reports claim that a distressed man, who had a gun, has taken a woman hostage at the casino after a domestic dispute.

Unconfirmed reports of witnesses claim that they heard loud screams and saw the woman being yanked into the bushes near the casino. Other witnesses add that they have also heard three shots fired in the parking lot. The alleged woman taken hostage is claimed to have relationship with the man, and some say she is released, however the man still remains in the parking lot as negotiators speak to him over a loud speaker.

The Police are using a megaphone to speak out loud to the man for surrendering himself and handing over the gun to the police. Police also claims to have sent a robot for delivering a cell phone to the man for the sake of speaking to him, but he did not pick up. Insp. Phil Eastwood sates that numerous police resources have been used to deal with the incident. Eastwood assured that there is no immediate danger to the public, but he urged that people should stay cautious and respect the police barricades installed around the area. Police have announced that no damage is done up till now.

The police standoff situation has caused causing major traffic delays in the area. TransLink spokesperson, Drew Snider, urged the local people who “want to get from 22nd St. Station to Annacis Island should go to Scott Road Station and take the #391 Scottsdale and transfer at Scottsdale to the #340.”
