A Mountie was killed Tuesday morning due to a car accident in Surrey, B.C., who belonged to a family with long tradition of serving with the RCMP. The Public Safety Minister of Canada, Vic Toews, made the announcement of his death, saying “many people will be affected by the loss of Const. Adrian Oliver’s life at about 5 a.m. Tuesday.”

Toews mentioned in his statement that “on behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of Const. Oliver who lost his life today while on duty.” He recalled that Oliver was indeed from a family of RCMP members. Toews asserted that “this is a very sad day for all Canadians.”

Oliver passed away after his unmarked police car crashed with a semi-trailer in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey, B.C. Oliver was quickly shifted to a nearby hospital but he could not make it. Vancouver Police tweeted the department’s condolences as Mounties were to provide more details.

The witnesses of the incident assure that paramedics arrived timely on the scene, just to discover the officer lying unconscious in the shattered, grey, unmarked cruiser. The operations manager of a nearby recycling company, Darryl Walker, stated that it was pretty apparent from the twisted condition of the police cruiser that there were very thin chances of the driver surviving.  He described that “the engine was sticking right out.” He added that “It was a mess.”
