On Saturday, May 29th, 2010, the victim, a 22 year old man, was swimming with friends at Professor’s Lake, located at 1660 North Park Drive.

At about 4:30 p.m., the victim began having trouble while swimming in the lake, and disappeared in the water. Good Samaritans entered the water and attempted to rescue the victim, however, were unsuccessful in their attempts.

Officers from the Peel Regional Police attended the scene along with the Brampton Fire Department. Several efforts were made to locate the male, including sending divers into the water, and searching the water with boats. All of these efforts met with negative results.

Shortly before 8:00 p.m., the Peel Regional Police Dive Team discovered a body, in the area where the victim had disappeared. The body was positively identified as the victim, Adriss CHEEMA, of Brampton.

Peel Regional Police urge citizens to be cautious near open bodies of water and only swim in designated areas. With summer fast approaching, police remind citizens to be cognizant of swimmer’s abilities and ensure that all appropriate safety equipment is within reach.
