Recently controversial Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, will be hosting his annual New Year’s levee this afternoon, as Ford and all the city councilors attend the meet-and-greet at the City Hall rotunda planned to commence from 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

All attendees will be allowed to take photos and be able to converse with the mayor and city councilors. Although the media has been informed in advance that Ford will be unavailable for any interview, which is a completely contradictory action than the past years, when usually the mayor and councilors boast about their plans for upcoming year. While addressing Toronto’s New Year’s Eve celebrations on Monday night, Ford asserted that Toronto needs to make money for taxpayers’ this year, adding that he also wants the NHL lockout to end soon so he can watch the Leafs play again. Ford’s first Tweet of 2013, was a greeting which said “wishing all of Toronto a very safe Happy New Year in 2013. May this be the best and most prosperous year for all.’”

This year’s levee was initially cancelled by the mayor’s office in early December but in response to a public outcry, the plan was put back on. The Toronto’s levee is only one of the several which took place around the Greater Toronto Area today as Lt.-Gov. David Onley hosted a levee at Queen’s Park starting at noon, Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion will be greeting public at the Civic Centre and Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell  plans to greet residents at the Rose Theatre.
