Even with the advantageous participation of players effected by the NHL lockout, in the tour of Canadian Junior Hockey to Russia, Canada has failed to lay it hands on the gold. Canadian team was ousted in the semi-final game by 5-1 of the world junior hockey championships against the U.S. Canada on Thursday.

Now Canadian team will be trying its luck to get their hands on the bronze medal, as they play their last game for third position on Saturday. Whereas, the Americans have qualified for the final game to get gold medal, which has happened for the first time since 2010 when U.S. defeated Canada 6-5. Canada has not won the title of world junior hockey since 2009, when it defeated Sweden by 5-1 in Ottawa to claim the title.

Captain of Canadian Junior Hockey Team, Jake McCabe, mentioned during the game that “we have to come out firing and stay disciplined.”  Assistant captain, JT Miller, admitted that the reason for Americans to take a lead will be their ability of getting Canadians on their heels. Canada’s Jonathan Huberdeau also shared the same concerns. A year ago, Canada was undefeated in the preliminary round but later stumbled out of in the semi-finals. Huberdeau referred to that semi-final match, saying  “It’s been a year but it feels like it was yesterday that it happened.” He added that “we want to have a great start. We know what can happen [if we don’t] and we don’t want that to happen.”
